Accommodation

Most convenient area is Prague 1 which includes the Old Town (Stare Mesto), the New Town (Nove Mesto, the Lesser Town (Mala Strana) and the Castle District (Hradcany). See recommended hotels.

Airport Transportation

Most hotels arrange the transportation for you. Compare their price with the Prague Airport Shuttle.

Czech Souvenirs

Crystal - a great design glass store is "Material" in Ungelt/Tyn in the Old Town
Garnet jewelry - an excellent garnet store is Studio Sperk at Dlouha 19 in the Old Town
Marionettes - check the shop "Marionety Truhlar" at U luzickeho seminare 5 below the Charles bridge in the Lesser Town (Mala Strana)
Becherovka herbal liquer has magical powers for digestion and is available everywhere.. :-)
Traditional Spa wafers from Karlovy Vary come in vanilla/nut flavor and chocolate. Must be made by "Opavia" company. Check the grocery stores.
Hand-made Czech crafts products such as blueprint, ceramics, natural cosmetics, wooden toys, Easter eggs and other traditional products can be found in the chain store "Manufaktura".

The nesting dolls and amber are NOT Czech tradional products.

Exchange

You can get the Czech Crown (koruna) from many ATMs around the city. If you have cash, the Exchange.cz office at the corner of Maiselova and Kaprova street offers good rates. Look always for "buy" valuta rate. This is in the Czech language "nakup" valuty. The exchange offices lure you on "sell" rate which you will get only if you change Czech Crowns for other currency.

How to avoid crowds

Prague top season is in May and September. Come in FEBRUARY or NOVEMBER!
Less frequented days are Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays
Check for Italian, German and Russian holidays and come another time :-)
During the season (May-October) skip the interiors of the Prague Castle (except the St Vitus cathedral) and visit instead the Lobkowicz Palace, Palace Gardens beneath the castle or the Royal Gardens. If you buy a ticket for the Prague Castle interiors, don't miss the Rosenberg Palace with its beautiful chapel and rooms of Noble Ladies.
A line for the St Vitus cathedral is usually shorter in the afternoons (due to the services on Sunday morning, try to avoid the Sunday afternoon as well)
Afternoon tours allow avoiding large groups inside of the historical buildings
Jewish Museum is most crowded on Sundays and the day after Jewish Holidays
